Summertime ... and the Reading Is Easy!

Summer Reading Program 2009

The Nuts & Bolts

Please join us on our six-week journey of reading challenges, shows, and special prizes to keep your kids connected with books and the library this summer vacation.

Studies have shown that children who read in the summer will have a great head-start when they return to school in the fall. By reading as few as four books over the summer, your child can retain or sharpen skills learned over an entire school year!

Registration is optional, but children who register and keep track of their reading will be eligible for special prizes at the end of our program.

ALL EVENTS START AT 11 AM AT THE LIBRARY UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED

July 8 Michael Caduto – “Tales from the Deep: Legends of the Living Waters”

What makes summer such a special season? Award-winning writer and musician Michael Caduto joins us from Vermont to remind us, while fostering understanding and appreciation of our natural environment.

July 15 Andrew Pinard – “Alejandro’s Olde Tyme Magik Showe”

An amazing one-man standup show, blending magic, storytelling and comedy. Don’t miss this chance to visit Andrew’s zany world of the impossible and absurd.

July 22 Dan Grady's “Marvelous Marionette Medley"

A long-time favorite of Sanbornton’s families, Dan returns to share his puppet wizardry with the latest generation of kids. Watch his marionettes strut their stuff, then learn how it’s all done.

July 29     A Family Concert with Steve Schuch

Haunting violin and whale calls ... music and tales of Ireland ... lively songs and toe-tapping rhythms. Award-winning musician and author Steve Schuch joins us for a special hour of music and storytelling.

August 5      Squam Lakes Natural Science Center – Animals w/ Bad Reputations

They slither, they bite. They smell, they swoop through the night. The Science Center returns with several misunderstood animals to help us appreciate their finer qualities.

August 12      Ice Cream Social

The grand finale for our Summer Reading Program. More games, prizes and certificates, a special visit from the NH Fisher Cats mascots – and of course, lots of watermelon & ice cream for our fearless readers!
